2011 KINGSPAN INSULATED PANELS STUDENT DESIGN COMPETITION
Entries are now closed - good luck to all those that entered. Winner to be announced over the next week.
Competition Background
Kingspan Insulated Panels is proud to sponsor the 2011 Australia & New Zealand Student Architecture Congress: FLUX, to be held in Adelaide from 6-9 July. Together with the FLUX Creative Directors and the Australian Institute of Architects, Kingspan Insulated Panels is supporting an innovative design competition – Point of Reference.
Point of Reference will encourage students to engage with Kingspan’s Insulated Panels, while designing a structure that will literally and symbolically be a focal point of the 2011 Congress.
Creative Brief
The theme of the 2011 Congress is Architecture in Crisis.
The design of temporary shelters has grown from a small niche in the market, to a necessary aspect of the wider architecture profession. With this in mind, the competition is to design a temporary structure, which addresses good design, construction simplicity and can be assembled “on site” at FLUX. The structure will be a registration centre and a meeting point during the Congress – a Point of Reference.
Since ancient times gathering places have had enormous cultural and architectural significance and, in the modern period, have been the subject of some of the world’s most inspiring architecture. While exploring the functionality and design flexibility of Kingspan Insulated Panels, entrants are encouraged to provide a focal gathering point for the duration of FLUX. Students are challenged to create an expressive form that meets the needs of the users and fits within the constraints of material use as outlined in the material detail document
