Kingspan Kicking Goals at Princes Park
October 2010

If you take a stroll around Princes Park, home of the mighty Carlton Football Club, the light glinting off the new club house and training complex is sure to catch your eye.

That’s because the outer facade and high exterior walls are constructed from Kingspan’s Architectural wall panels – finished in a stylish mini-rib profile.

William Ross Architects specified Kingspan’s wall panels for a variety of reasons. The exterior looks great, the mini-rib profile providing a professional finish that accords with the aesthetic ambitions. The internal liner provided a pre-finished surface which required no further treatment once installed.

Architect Steve Maxwell, who oversaw the project, says one of the attractions of Kingspan’s wall panels was that they exceed the Building Code of Australia standards for thermal insulation. The high thermal performance and low air leakage potential of the Kingspan panels allow for more effective use of HVAC plant which in turn dramatically reduces the consumption of energy.

“Kingspan panels are guaranteed to retain their thermal performance for the life of the product thereby helping to ensure that the building energy performance rating is maintained throughout the life of the building”, said Helen Flood, Kingspan’s marketing manager.

“At a time when operational energy costs are on the rise building performance is key, lowering these costs and in turn reducing carbon emissions and global warming”.

Maxwell also identified other ways that Kingspan’s products have saved money: the span of the panels means that less structural supports were required to mount the panels. This saved both the cost of materials, and labour to install “Overall, we are very satisfied with the product, the service and the outcome,” Maxwell said.

His endorsement is echoed by the installer on the project, Daniel Bonman from Professional Plumbing Contractors.

“There was a short learning curve to install the product, but once you’ve used it, you quickly become competent at installing it,” Mr. Bonman said.

Helen Flood said that “Kingspan’s products are well received by installers because of the ease of their installation. They are single component systems that combine the facade, insulation and internal liner in one this combined with longer panel lengths means that less of them need to be installed, making the whole job quicker.”

The finished facility means that the Mighty Blues have a functional, sustainable and aesthetically pleasing training ground. Carlton Football Club president, Stephen Kernahan, said that these these new facilities will benefit everyone; players, coaches, administrators, members, supporters and the community.

Kingspan Group is a global leader, designing and manufacturing sustainable, high quality, fire safe insulated roof and architectural wall panel systems.
